About Karen                                                                                                                                                                        W O O D E N   T I L E   by Karen Deans

Karen was born
in Atlanta and
graduated from
the American
University in Paris
with a degree in
art history. She
now lives in the
Washington,
D.C. area with
her husband and
three children.
Karen's WOODEN
TILE creations
combine her love
of color and
pattern with her
unique sense of
style. Oil paint on
panel has always
been her favorite
medium and gives
the tiles their visual
richness.
The endless
possibilities of
design inspire
Karen, who enjoys
working with
people to create
Wooden Tile
combinations that
reflect their own
styles.
In the 1980's Karen spent
four years living in Tokyo
and traveling throughout
Asia. She continues to be
inspired by the varied and
rich aesthetics of countries
such as China and Japan,
as expressed in many of her
WOODEN TILE designs.
Karen worked as a muralist,
illustrator and fine artist in
Washington D.C. and New York
before creating WOODEN TILE.
Karen is also an author of
children's books. Her first title,
"Playing to Win: the Story of
Althea Gibson"
was published in August 2007
by Holiday House/New York.
